Program Overview

The Certificate in Women and Gender Studies contributes to the methodological training, the
theoretical knowledge, and research skills of graduate students from a variety of departments.
Many disciplines in the social sciences and humanities engage in women, gender, sexuality and
feminist analysis in their graduate courses. This certificate enriches the disciplinary training of
graduate students with in-depth interdisciplinary training.


Requirements for Admission

Masters and Doctoral Students already matriculated in other graduate programs at the University
of Delaware may apply for acceptance in the Certificate program. Students with a 3.0 or higher
gpa will be considered for acceptance.


Requirements for Certificate

The graduate Certificate in Women and Gender Studies requires 11 course credits. Students must
earn a grade of B or higher in order for the credits to count toward the certificate. The course
requirements include the following:
WOMS 604  Advanced Feminist Theory  3
WOMS 605  Feminist Research Methods  3
WOMS 606  Critical Feminist Pedagogy  4
This course has a teaching requirement for our introductory courses
WOMS 608  Certificate Writing Requirement  1
The writing requirement should be an extended piece of scholarly writing in Women and
Gender Studies. This may be part of an MA thesis, a Ph.D. dissertation, or an essay of
publishable quality.
